Provence Cooking Classes
Wine Classes with Patricia Wells
If you live in one of the world’s
most exciting wine regions, you’d have
to be a fool not to want to learn more about
the area’s riches. So, one week each
year
Patricia Wells invites her cooking class guests
to participate in a specially designed Wine
Week. The entire session is devoted to studying
and tasting the wines of the area, including
Cote Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf
du-Pape, Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Tavel and Lirac.
A highlight of the week is personalized instruction
and tastings led by wine expert Juan
Sanchez, an American with
a highly popular wine shop in Paris, La Dernière
Goutte.
Throughout the week, wine experts
and winemakers are present for tastings, and
there are cellar visits. During a recent Wine
Week, we sampled some 100 Rhône wines
of varied vintages! Cooking remains a focus
of the week, and there is a strong emphasis
on wine and food pairing at all meals, whether
taken at Chanteduc or in restaurants. All of
the other activities of regular weeks 'At Home
with
Patricia Wells' (a market tour, hand’s on
cooking classes, special cheese instruction)
are included in the Wine Week. All instruction
is in English. Recipes are geared to the home
cook. Guests are supplied with aprons as well
as detailed recipe booklets that are theirs
to keep.
The class is limited to 10 guests.
The week begins with dinner on Sunday night
and ends after lunch on Friday. The fee is
$4,500 and includes market visits,
all tastings, transportation for local visits,
all lunches, and dinners Monday, Tuesday, and
Thursday. The fee does not include lodging.
(A list of recommended hotels is sent to enrolled
guests.)
